Where the Wild Things Are

Today is Opening Day for "Where the Wild Things Are," a live-action film based on the children's book by Maurice Sendak. The book is one of my son's favorites and it makes an appearance now and then. Sometimes I let Barack Obama read to him.

Ken Turan, LA Times reviewer who I trust like he's part of my own brain, says the monsters are like horrible neurotic adults. I can totally hear it when I listen to the clips. Gandolfini sounds like he's whinging. Let me know if you see it. (I think he also said Jonze has created a movie neither adults nor children will like.)

I only just read this the other day at work, I must admit. So many kids are after this book right now. This & "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs." Kind of sad that it takes movies to make kids want to read, but at least they're reading, I guess.

Anna - hence the verdict that LBA won't get to see it and I have no desire to, either. But what exactly is "whinging"?

Lana - LBA did get to see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and the book is now also in regular reading rotation here.
