A Date to Reach New Heights

As I write this, the New York Rangers and the Buffalo Sabres are between the second and third periods. The Rangers lead 1-0. Versus just had a brief piece on the Stanley Cup, the New York Rangers, and Madison Square Garden. It is alleged that one of the reasons the Rangers were so cursed between Cup wins (1940-1994) was that when the Rangers won the cup in 1940, the team burned the mortgage for the Garden in the bowl of the Cup. But heart and tradition are still doing it for me. I will admit here publicly, something I mentioned to a friend this afternoon, that in each occasion when the Rangers won the cup, they also won the President's Trophy, given to the team with the best record. You may note the Rangers are currently playing the 2007 President's Trophy winners. But, still, Rangers in 6!

Today also marks the 76th anniversary of the dedication of the Empire State Building in New York City. Once again the tallest building in the city, the 102-story tower has had a long and storied history in New York. It too, has heart and tradition.

Let's go Rangers!
